My Recursive Key-ring

The key-ring is a masterpiece of modular design! Any item with a hole can be threading onto a ring. Whereupon this ring can be threaded into another, and so on. My key-ring follows this to extreme, as the basic key-ring is supplemented with different categories of toys, each on its own hierarchy ring so the less important items can be removed easily. At just under 250g it is more like a utility belt, and only carried on special occasions. i.e. whenever I wear combat trousers with extra-large pockets. Most of the time, I just take the main ring, occasionally with the note pad ring.

- House keys
- Bottle opener
- 128Mb Pen drive *

- Note pad
- Torch **
+ Pencil sub-ring ***
  - Pencil

Geek ring
- Digital camera
- X10 controller
- Laser pointer
+ Locks ring
   - Induction door fob
   - Generic keys for PCs/disk-boxes
   - PowerPC chip

Personal ring

Toys ring
- Yo-yo

Notes:

* Technically on a separate sub-ring, but rarely disconnected

** Not shown on picture

*** Including on a sub-ring because, being an engineer, I usually carry a set of pens with me

I no longer carry a screwdriver set or pen-knife on the rings.

The last time I took the entire ring was on my trip to FOSDEM 2004. The customs officials gave me strange looks at both sides of the tunnel.
